The Tiger Point/Ceylon lift station was installed in 1994. Since then, there have been several emergency repairs and replacements to the pumps; however, the pumps have not held up very well, and one is currently in the shop for evaluation. Due to the lift station's age, it requires considerable maintenance upgrades. The concrete structure and the associated plumbing inside the wet well show signs of significant surface erosion due to the corrosive gasses created in that environment. This requires replacing the pipes, pumps, and the wet well with a cementitious coating or fitting with a fiberglass insert.
In keeping up with GBRWS's new lift station specifications, staff recommends above-ground with the discharge piping. This would allow for the removal of the existing underground vault for the associated valves. Staff would also like to look at the pump selection to ensure that they are large enough to handle significant rain events as this station receives flow from all of Tiger Point East, Sterling Point, and the commercial area surrounding the Tiger Point Walmart (Lowes, Publix and all of their outlying parcels), approximately 14 different stations.
The existing electrical components of this site are currently in satisfactory condition, and any maintenance associated with them will be performed by staff as needed.
The City has entered into an agreement with Baskerville-Donovan, Inc., to perform the necessary design/engineering and permitting for the project. The project construction cost is estimated to be approximately $325,000, which was determined by similar projects in 2022. Funding for this project is available under the Capital Improvements for Sewer Lift Station rehabilitation and is part of the deferred maintenance expenditures.
