PROJECT STATUS:
Project is nearing completion. Contractor needs to finish a few of the close-out items and project will be complete!
On November 7, 2022, City Council authorized staff to advertise an Invitation to Bid (ITB) for the construction of visitor seating at Shoreline Field.
The visitor seating project will utilize an existing retention wall and mature tree canopy for shade. Undergrowth and all trees smaller than 12” in diameter will be cleared within the project area to accommodate space for approximately 159 seated visitors in two rows. The proposal should include a design of materials to create pedestrian ingress/egress from the existing sidewalk, which follows the slope up the hill so that visitors have an elevated vantage point of the field. Stones and other natural materials are preferred. Seating will be accommodated by the construction of 317 linear feet of segmented block seat wall or similar structural support backfilled with earth. The project area consists of approximately 0.02 acres of clearing, grubbing, minor grade work, and the construction of linear seating with retention block and capstone. The greenspace buffer will otherwise remain untouched. The ideal proposal will include the contractor's choice of stone materials for an attractive, inviting seating area built into the natural landscape.
The ADA project consists of an ADA-compliant observation area, a concrete apron comprising approximately 2593 sq. ft., and a sports ball retention netting system for both end zone areas. The observation area with a concrete apron will be installed around the perimeter of Shoreline Field. The apron will match in elevation both the edge of the field as well as the edge of the sidewalk. The observation area perimeter will match the retaining blocks of what currently resides on-site. The retention netting for ball containment will be suitable to withstand the impact of Lacrosse balls and prevent passthrough off the field.
On March 28, 2023, the Tourist Development Advisory Committee agreed in concept to approve funding for Shoreline Field Visitor Seating and additional amenities. The project subsequently had to be re-advertised after consultation with potential bidders. On May 1, 2023, City Council awarded the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Shoreline Field Visitor Seating, ADA observation area, and sediment/erosion control areas to EcoGardens Landscaping for $171,396 and authorized the Mayor to sign the contract upon review by the City Attorney for legal sufficiency.
Total Estimated Cost: $175,000 | Funded by: Tourist Development Tax Fund Reserves
