Keeping contamination levels low means less sorting and waste at the MRF (material recycling facility). Low contamination levels also make it cost-effective for the ECUA material recycling facility to process city recycling, so there are rarely interruptions in city service. YOU'RE AWESOME AND IT SHOWS 1 YOU BEAT THE COMPETITION Don’t pay attention to the news for recycling service outside the city. The City of Gulf Breeze has its own competitively bid contract for solid waste and recycling service. Nearby areas have higher contamination rates which can impact service and rates. 2 3 5 YOU'RE THE RECYCLING "IN CROWD" The ECUA material recycling facility processes materials from the Florida Panhandle, Alabama and Mississippi. A MRF nearby makes recycling more affordable to our residents. But, space is limited and so the MRF must turn communities away. It’s important that Gulf Breeze remain a good customer with low contamination rates in partnership with Republic Services and ECUA. 4 GOOD HABITS TRANSLATE TO A HIGH QUALITY OF LIFE In 2020, Gulf Breeze eliminated 16% of its waste at the Santa Rosa County landfill by recycling. The national average is 26% and the Florida average is 49% with a statewide goal of 75%! Landfills are costly to the environment and to ratepayers, especially in our geography. Landfills are also among the biggest contributors to soil pollution – roughly 80% of the items buried in landfills could be recycled. GULF BREEZE MAKES "SORTING" JUST ANOTHER FUN, FAMILY ACTIVITY Sorting recyclables from other solid waste is important. At high levels of contamination, the entire truck haul may be rejected. Gulf Breeze Garbage and Recycling Services:

Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday – household waste collection by cart; (varies by address. See CALENDAR for your assigned pick up day or call us at 850-934-5110)

Fridays – 

Fridays – curbside recyclables collection on alternate weeks depending on blue or gray zone 

Wednesday – yard waste collection (Issued yard waste kart only).

Please note: Cart, recyclable cart, and yard waste should be no more than three feet from the street by 7am of collection day.

OTHER HOUSEHOLD DISPOSAL

The City operates a waste transfer station for the convenience of City residents located just south of the intersection of Shoreline Drive and South Sunset. Hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (February – October) and Tuesdays and Saturdays (November – January). Excess yard waste, tree limbs, trunks and stumps, non-hazardous construction scraps, old furniture, appliances, etc., may be dropped off for disposal.  A fee is charged to cover transportation and disposal costs from the transfer station. Current fees are available at this link. There are also containers for recyclable deposit (cardboard, plastic, and metals).

You should NOT direct or expect home contractors or landscapers to be able to benefit from the transfer station convenience. The City does not offer large item pickup service. Many furniture and appliance retailers will dispose of your old furniture or appliance for free when they deliver the new one.
