Shade Structures Project – Wayside Park and Shoreline Fields

This project includes replacing the shade fabric material over the bleachers and dugouts at the Shoreline Baseball Fields; Installing new shade fabric material over the bleachers at the new synthetic turf multi-sport field; and replacing the gazebos at Wayside Park with custom designed shade structures matching the overall vibe of the Bay Bridge improvements. Project Status:

4.14.2025: This project is COMPLETE! :) Shade America finished installing the remaining shade structures at Wayside Park on Friday, April 11, 2025. Final Payment has been issued, and project closeout documentation has been received. This project is officially closed!

3.13.25 Shade America is scheduled to be on-site Monday, March 17th to install two (2) additional repaired structures. They will then uninstall the remaining two and take them back to be repaired.
3.10.2025: The city continues to collaborate with Shade America regarding the shade structures at Wayside Park. After the installation of the structures, staff noticed defects in the poles, which they believed were caused by an error during the preparation and/or powder coating processes, as particulates were found in the powder coat finish. To date, Shade America has successfully repaired and replaced three structures. They anticipate returning this week, either on Thursday or Friday, to install two additional structures, depending on the weather.

5.29.24 The shades for the Shoreline Multi-Purpose Sports Field have been installed, completing the Shoreline Shade Structures project. The City is still working with Shade America to complete the installation of shade structures at Wayside Park before closing this project.

3.27.2024: Shade America has finished installing the new shades for the dugouts at Shoreline Park North. The 4 bleachers at the Multi-Purpose Sports Field still need to be installed.
2.21.2024: City held a meeting with Shade America to address the rusting of the poles at Wayside. Shade America will submit a plan of action to remedy the issues.
2.16.2024: Shoreline Park shades installed | Shade America to return week of May 26, 2024 to complete install of new shade structures over the dug outs.

Installation of the shades at Wayside Park is complete!
Shade America will begin installing the new shades at Shoreline Park North tentatively the week of January 29, 2024.

Project Overview:

City Council approved the Design-Build Agreement with Shade America for the design, engineering, fabrication, supply, and installation of new shade structures for 3 existing locations within the City: Shoreline Multi-Sport Field, Shoreline Baseball Fields, and Wayside Park Pavilions. The project is funded 50/50 with bed tax and CRA funding.

All shade structures at Shoreline fields will be turquoise, and the shade structures at Wayside will alternate from North to South with cedar, rivergum, and desert sand.
