Mayor JB Schluter was sworn into office as Mayor on December 5, 2024. JB’s service to the City Council began in 2006. He served two four-year terms, with his second term as Mayor Pro Tem. On February 19, 2019, the City Council appointed JB to fill an unexpired term. He was elected to the seat uncontested in 2020 and served a four-year term to December 2024.
Mayor Schluter’s quality-of-life priorities reflect his background as a successful business entrepreneur and athlete background. Recent initiatives include supporting the development of new sports facilities, such as Shoreline Field, and enhancing waterfront access for paddlers, boaters, and anglers. He is also committed to policies that enhance and protect neighborhood services.
During his earlier term on the Council, JB played a pivotal role in redeveloping the Community Center and establishing the After School Program.

JB owns and operates Innerlight Surf Shop and The Pensacola Beach Marina, combining his passion for business and the coastal community.
Community Service and Leadership Roles
Mayor Schluter serves in various community-focused capacities, including:
- Council appointee to the Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) and the Emerald Coast Regional Council (ECRC).
- Member of the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Advisory Committee and the Pensacola & Perdido Bay Estuary Board.
- Ex officio interim member of the Board of Directors for the Capital Trust Agency and the Capital Trust Authority.
His previous roles included serving as Mayor Pro Tem on the City Council and as a member of the Development Review Board, Bay Area Resource Council, Advisory Park Board, and Gulf Breeze Sports Association.
Personal Background
A lifelong resident of Gulf Breeze, JB graduated from Gulf Breeze High School in 1976. He is married to his high school sweetheart, and together, they raised three children in the City. Their ten grandchildren are now also being raised in Gulf Breeze. He is a member of Calvary Chapel.
