In accordance with Ordinance 08-02, the following procedures will be followed for all
businesses in the City of Gulf Breeze: After an application for an Occupational License for a new business or change of address on an existing business is accepted, a Life Safety/ Fire Inspection will be performed by the Gulf Breeze Fire Department in conjunction with the Department of Community
Services.
As a courtesy, the owner will be notified at least one day prior to inspection date. On your inspection day, please be sure to have an owner, manager or other member of the supervisory staff on duty. The Fire Inspector must be able to access all rooms in the building. After the inspection, if violations are found, the Fire Inspector will provide you with a list of these violations and advise when he will be back. The majority of violations found are minor and are given thirty (30) days to be repaired. If the violations pose a severe and immediate threat, the City of Gulf Breeze reserves the right to reduce the amount of time required for abatement accordingly.
Thirty days after the initial inspection, (or less depending on the nature of the violations) the Inspector will return for the first re-inspection. No prior notification is given for re-inspections. The initial inspection and the first re-inspection are performed free of charge. If, after the first reinspection, your business is still not in compliance, the following fees will be levied for each subsequent inspection.
- Second Re-Inspection $25
- Third Re-Inspection $250
- Fourth Re-inspection $500
If your business is still not in compliance after the fourth re-inspection, we are required to issue you a Notice to Appear. This requires a mandatory court appearance for the responsible party. If your business is in full compliance after the initial inspection, you may be eligible for a 50 percent rebate on your Occupational Licensing Fees. This rebate is nonnegotiable and is available only for inspections performed on new businesses. NOTE: Because Fire Inspectors are also required to respond to fire-rescue situations inside the City, inspections are subject to cancellation without prior notice. In this case, a representative of the department will contact you to reschedule for a later date or time.
