In December, 1989, the City Council established a Community Redevelopment Area for special focus and a CRA to manage its redevelopment. The City Council created the CRA pursuant to the Community Redevelopment Act of 1969. The purpose of the act was to provide local governments in Florida with the tools necessary to revitalize portions of their communities.
The Redevelopment Plan was updated formally in 2006. The best way to ensure community sensitive development is to provide a planning framework and standards that make it very clear what type of development will enhance the character our community wants to maintain – and what types of development practices we will not accept.
The Redevelopment Plan was again updated in 2009.
