Trey Martin Has Been Named As Interim Parks And Recreation Director
Trey Martin has been named as Interim Parks and Recreation Director and will officially begin his new role Monday, December 19. Trey received his Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management from Union College Kentucky where he played football as a linebacker for four years. Trey previously played one year of baseball at Pensacola State College and is a graduate of Pine Forest High School where he played in two state championships, both in 2007 for baseball and football. Trey is married to Rebekah who is a kindergarten teacher at SS Dixon Primary and together they have a daughter Olive, aged 2.
Trey Martin was hired in 2020 by since-retired Director Ron Pulley and assumed the primary responsibilities of Assistant Director Kathy Wortham upon her retirement. As the city's Recreation Manager, Trey has been responsible for supervising all recreation staff and programs throughout the city's recreation facilities. He works closely with other city department heads and division managers on quality-of-life projects and programs. Jim Ponek assumed the director role last summer but did not continue after a probationary period.
In addition to Trey Martin's experience managing Gulf Breeze recreation programs, Trey has previously served as the Facility Superintendent at Pensacola Country Club, coordinating golf and tennis tournaments, youth development activities, and overseeing facility capital maintenance.  As the city's Interim Parks and Recreation Director, Trey Martin will work under the direction of the City Manager to facilitate the recommendations of the Advisory Park Board and Tourist Development Advisory Committee and implement the Mayor and City Council's annual budget, including reviewing maintenance and capital improvement needs for all Parks and Recreation facilities. In his role, Trey will also meet with citizens and community leaders to implement the quality-of-life programs of the Gulf Breeze Mayor and Council.
